Goals of Module 1 of the course:

Theoretical and practical introduction to the zebrafish model, genetics and anatomy:

1. An overview of zebrafish genetics with focus on transcriptomics, transgenesis and gene editing approaches
2. Inject single-cell stage embryos using CRISPR tools to knock out gene function
3. Gain familiarity with different classes of transgenic and the imaging capabilities of different types of microscope
4. Learn methods for neural circuit tracing using photoactivatable proteins and dextran-conjugated dyes
5. Learn about community brain atlases and how they can be used
